MIPS Clerk Backend
As the primary backend developer for MIPS Clerk, the flagship application in MIPS Inc.'s suite of county government software, I own the C#/.NET backend for a platform now used by more than half of Nebraska's county clerks and still growing. Since taking over the backend, I've led a modernization push: upgrading the codebase from .NET 8 to .NET 10, standardizing conventions that had grown inconsistent over time, and consolidating redundant database calls using Npgsql directly against PostgreSQL, work that's improved throughput by 50% or more in some areas. Beyond modernization, I continue to design and implement new features for the application as county needs evolve.
MIPS Employee Portal
As the sole developer of MIPS Clerk's auxiliary web applications, I designed and built an employee portal that gives county employees self-service access to their own payroll information without having to go through the clerk's office directly. It hooks into MIPS Clerk's existing authentication so employees log in with the same credentials, then lets them view paychecks and documentation like W2s, search historical paystubs across custom date ranges, and explore a 'total compensation' dashboard that breaks down their pay, taxes, and withholdings over time. It's cut down significantly on the manual, one-off requests clerks used to field just to answer questions employees can now answer themselves.
Ledger
A personal, self-hosted life-organization app I designed and built from the ground up: a journal, task and event tracker, wishlists, and habit/metric trackers, all under one roof. It's built as an installable PWA with Next.js and Tailwind, backed by SQLite via Drizzle ORM, and deployed as a single Docker container. Rather than exposing it to the public internet, I run it over Tailscale, which puts my own device and the server on the same private network so I can reach it securely from anywhere without opening a single port. It's become the app I actually use every day to run my own life, and has been a great excuse to get hands-on with a modern Next.js App Router stack, service workers, and database schema design outside of my day job.
MIPS Department Head Portal
As the sole developer of the portal and its supporting API, I built a self-service application that lets county department heads, staff who oversee a department but aren't the clerk, submit information directly to the clerk's office instead of going through email or in-person requests. It plugs into the same authentication and user management system as MIPS Clerk's other applications, with the frontend integration into the broader system handled by teammates. Currently the portal covers budget requests, with more request types planned as adoption grows.
EHR .NET Interface/Library
One of my major accomplishments in my time at Nebraska DHHS has been the interface that I built out for our EHR. This was done to resolve an issue we had with both application automation as well as cross-app data availability. In tandem with a third party library, I created a library that provided additional utility and shorthand functions (mailer, logging, code dictionary) as well as a database connector. From here I built out a boilerplate project and accompanying documentation so that the interface was easily usable and accessible for anyone on the team.
Pitcherlist Leaderboard
One Pitcherlist feature that I've put a great deal of work into is the site's leaderboard. Upon joining one of the first things I was tasked with was updating the look and feel of the leaderboard. Though this began with just the styling elements and some peripheral features, it eventually grew into a full blown overhaul after identifying that the library used for generating the stat tables could be further optimized. Since then I have added additional features to it: a major one in particular being the subscriber-exclusive 'Draft Calculator', through which the site's subscribers gain access to custom-tailored projections based on their fantasy league settings. This is definitely one of the projects I am most proud of.
Bohemian Web Design
A project that I started a few years ago with the intent to provide contract work to people looking to build websites. Though my work with Pitcherlist has been the lionshare of my web development work, I am hopeful to continue my work with the site in the near future. I had a great time building it and it was one of my first experiences touching on nearly all aspects of web development, making it a great learning experience. Originally, I set out with the goal of creating modern websites for businesses and organizations primarily local to Nebraska; I'm really excited to continue pursuing this in the near future.
Personal Site Template
The template for this website! Though ultimately I was seeking to build a personal website to showcase my experience, past projects, skills, etc. I decided to develop the base template of it open-source. This includes the base layout, components (which people can freely mix and match with), navigation; essentially anything you see that isn't personalized specifically to me! The goal with publishing the template was to provide a serviceable (if a bit plain) portfolio site that people could freely use without having to know much programming. This was accomplished by having almost all "personalized" data centered in one data object.
History Blog
Not long after I graduated university I started one of my first forays into web development and created a history blog. I've had a passion for history for a long time (it was my second major besides Computer Science) and thought that it'd be a great idea to marry two of my passions. Designed using Angular, Typescript, and Firebase, I spun the site up and wrote one entry before shifting from part time to full time employment. Due to this, the site has sat dormant for some time, but someday I'm looking forward to going back populating the site with more history articles.
